January 2012
My SPED student earned a 78% on his midterm. 78% without a curve. 78% on his own. His grade on the last midterm was a 40%. Thinking of ways to share and celebrate with him.
Now to grade 84 other exams.
Kameelah Rasheed: Artist Blog: Almost an Update →
I am very tired. I have been having a lot of meetings with other artists. It’s great to plan with beautiful spirits. It’s indescribable. The month of January has been my most productive month as an artist. I can only pray that the rest of 2012 is as fruitful as January.
As soon as I have confirmation on everything, I will be sharing more. One thing that I am excited about is ...

Started with 85 papers. 10 more papers to grade. Guess who did not sleep last night? This girl. Tuesday, midterms begin and I can finally rest.
So many things to say. More than anything, I wanted to share that I am really happy. Something magical has happened and soon enough I will share.
Every story I create, creates me. I write to create myself.

Each time I post a poem draft, I quickly pull it down. Somethings should be kept quiet until they are ready to fly. They don’t belong on a blog, they belong in a book, or a magazine, or somewhere where they have space to pulse and be alive.

sometimes, i need to fall back, keep to myself for a couple days.
sometimes, i wish i could rearrange priorities. my peers are outraged by the lack of representation in magazines that basically tell us we’re not ever going to be good enough and we need to buymoreshitbuymoreshitbuymoreshit, but can’t invest any concern into the state of our classrooms, the burdens placed upon...

Water is in a constant state of flux. Transforming states, versatile uses and abuses, creating and destroying, waves and maelstroms…
Since we are created from water, what makes us think that there is such thing as permanent states within us?

Friends have been amazing today. Phone calls, emails. Open hearts and open ears. The sequence of events has been truly a blessing. I could not have asked for a better alignment of events, interventions, and loved ones. On this day, thank you.
& Forgive
Forgive others for the hurt they cause. Sometimes you think that the pain another person has inflicted on you is the greatest level of pain anyone can endure. Take stock of the situation. Remember that he who has inflicted pain on you is experiencing a secret suffering of their own. We hurt others when we are hurt. We don’t know how to nurture when we’ve never been nurtured. That...

Give Thanks
I prayed for something for a couple of months, and today, I received it. I knew it was in the works. Allah was creating these small but noticeable fractures through which light could shine. Sometimes, I saw the light; other times I purposely put on my sunglasses and avoided the light. I wanted to be delivered from this situation, but was hesitant. Allah answered, pushed me into a corner to be...

Some guidelines for loving:
1. Tell them about their brilliance. They likely can’t see it and they don’t know its immensity, but you can see it, and you can illuminate it for them.
2. Be authentic, and give others the gift of the real you and a real relationship. Ask your real questions. Share your real beliefs. Go for your real dreams. Tell your truth.

IT IS a familiar-sounding tale: after decades of simmering discontent a new form of media gives opponents of an authoritarian regime a way to express their views, register their solidarity and co-ordinate their actions. The protesters’ message spreads virally through social networks, making it impossible to suppress and highlighting the extent of public support for...
